What “Research Use Only” Means (and Who We Sell To)

What the research use only label means for peptides, what it does not mean, who we sell to, and why our support team never gives dosing advice.

“Research use only” appears on almost every peptide supplier’s website, often in small print. This article explains what the phrase means, what it does not mean, who we sell to, and why our support team will help with orders, shipping and documentation but will never give dosing or administration advice.

Short version: research use only (RUO) means a product is supplied as a laboratory material for scientific research. It is not a medicine, supplement or cosmetic, and it is not for use in people or animals. A label alone does not change what a product is for: how it is sold and described matters too.

Where the term comes from

“Research use only” is standard wording across the life-science supply industry. Antibodies, reagents, analytical standards, cell-culture media and synthetic peptides are routinely sold with an RUO label. It tells the buyer the material is intended for laboratory investigation, has not been approved for clinical or diagnostic use, and has not been produced or tested to the standards required for a medicine.

What research use only means at PeptiCore Labs

  • Laboratory research only. Our compounds are supplied for in-vitro and other qualified laboratory research.
  • No human or animal use. Products must not be administered to people or animals in any way.
  • No medical claims. We do not claim that any product diagnoses, treats, cures or prevents any condition, and nothing on our site should be read that way.
  • Documentation is for identification. Certificates of analysis confirm the identity and purity of a batch. They are not evidence that a material is safe for any use in people.

What research use only does not mean

It is not a loophole. Some sellers put an RUO disclaimer in the footer while the rest of the site talks about benefits, doses and injection. Regulators look at the overall impression a website gives, not just the disclaimer, and in 2026 the US Food and Drug Administration issued warning letters to several peptide sellers on exactly that basis.

That is why our site does not publish dosing charts, injection guides, “benefits” lists or calculators, and why our product descriptions stick to identification and specifications.

Who we sell to

We supply researchers, laboratories, academic and commercial research groups, and distributors serving them. When you check out, you confirm that you understand the research-use-only nature of the products and will use them only for lawful research. Institutions and labs ordering in volume can apply for pricing on our Wholesale page.

Why this matters to you as a buyer

A supplier that takes research-use-only seriously is usually a supplier that takes quality and documentation seriously too. Clear batch records, honest labeling of who issued each certificate, and consistent product information are all part of the same discipline. When you compare suppliers, a site full of health claims is a warning sign, not a selling point.

Frequently asked questions

Can I buy research peptides as an individual?

Our products are sold for qualified laboratory research. At checkout every buyer confirms they will use the products only for lawful research and not in people or animals.

Do you provide dosing information?

No. We do not provide dosing, administration or reconstitution guidance for human or animal use, and our support team cannot answer those questions.

Are your products approved by the FDA?

No. Research-use-only materials are not approved drugs, supplements or cosmetics, and they are not evaluated for safety or efficacy in people.

What documentation comes with each product?

Each batch has a certificate of analysis from our manufacturer’s quality control laboratory, with HPLC purity and mass spectrometry identity results. You can find them through COA Lookup.
